No I don’t believe any such place exists or likely ever will exist. It will be a constant challenge for not only wildlife, but all other resource, managers to try reaching the ever changing balances of nature forever into the future. So many things have been altered in the past and so many things are constantly changing that a correct balance will always be a difficult objective. Since man has to simulate the control of predation with hunting and various habitat management to simulate the lack of fires the balance will always have to be the responsibility of man. Man also altered so many things in the past that many things can probably never go back to just the balance of nature without man controlling some aspects. We no longer have passenger pigeons, bison, mountain lions or mast producing chestnuts, just to name a few that have an affect on today’s habitat and balances. Throw in the affects of the gypsy moth, the elm span worm, the woolly algid, the emerald ash bore the beech scale and a host of other new forest pests and it is easy to see how the future doesn’t look even as bright as the past has been. Though that might sound bleak, we still need to stive to make things as balanced as possible because that is what will work best for each and all species, including the hunter, for the long term future.
