that number also does not count the number of deer that were picked up and taken home to eat. I know my son has gotten at least one every year for the last four years. dd |

It also doesn't count the many that are hit, but manage to get into the woods or brush and not be found. I've had many "close calls" but only ever had one actual road-kill, and I was doing about 40 mph. The deer jumped off a high brushy bank and landed about 6 inches in front of me, maybe even brushed the front grill before it hit the road. No matter how fast you drive -- ya can't hit em if they ain't there! My neighbor is contantly hammering his grandson about how fast he drives and tells him that someday he is going to put a deer right through his windshield and he better slow down. The grandson's reply: No Pap, it don't work that way. If you drive fast enough you get past them before they can run out in front of you. |
