My alarm did not go off this morning, so I did not wake up till 5:38. With Fred taking his sweet old time coming back inside this morning, I made it out the door at 5:50. I was at the drainage ditch that I got one last year, sat down, and had one gobbling by 6:10. He gobbled for half an hour, shut up and went the other way. That was all I heard today. There was 2 shots that I heard and I saw deer tracks everywhere.dd |

Met my son at 5:00 at the game lands parkig lot, no other vehicles. We split up and hunted about 1/4 mile apart, I heard my first gobble about 5:50 sounded real far away and out the side of the mountain so I didn't call at first waiting for a closer bird. But there wasnt anything closer so I started calling, the bird shut up about 6:15, around 6:25 I hear a second gobbler this one down over the side and then the first one started again and would answer everything and started getting closer. I thought alright and moved around the tree to have a better angle at 7:00 I see him out about 125 yards but wait instead of coming in he is going out along the side of the mountain heard my last gobble at 7:15. My son also haerd two gobblers but they were on the opposite side of the mountain from where he was set up and by the time he decided to move they had shu up. Hopefully we will have better luck next week.
| Are you really old enough to remember when there were huntable numbers of deer on the gamelands. |

I whacked one at 8:15 just as I was getting ready to surrender the woods to the stinkin bugs. I thought other hunters had spooked the birds off the roost early and I didn't have much hope, but as I was getting ready to leave I heard a gobble from behind me. I sttled back against my stump and two hens and the 2-year old bird fed right past me at maybe 18 yards and into my line of fire. Nice heavy bird. |

Congrats bowbum. I was going to go out this morning for a couple of hours before work, but when I got up it was raining so I went back to bed. It is still raining so I think I made the right decision.
