My son picked me up at 4:30 it was pouring rain, arrived at our parking area at 5:00 and it was raining harder. We split up and left the truck at 5:10 at 5:30 I was set up under my tree umbrella. Did not see or hear anything until 7:45 when a hen came in but did not make a sound. At 8:30 my son calls and says there is one gobbling out further on the mountain I was on (he was across the hollow on another mountain). I packed up and started out an olr tram road soon I heard him gobble, then I saw him in an open area strutting apx 150 yards in front of me. As I was setting up he gobbled again and I was ready, however at my first call he came out of strut and walked directly away not to be heard or seen again. That didn't do much for my ego.

y son never seen anything and the only one he heard was on my side.

Are you really old enough to remember when there were huntable numbers of deer on the gamelands.

It has been horribly slow for me this year.  Did not hear one bird this past Saturday.

I have alot of confidence the later the season goes if I can get a response but responses on non existent for me this year.

I hate to say it again, but IMO our season begins too late.  Especially in our more temperate areas.  I know the timing of the season is supposed to cause the least disturbance to breeding but come on, how much can we really disrupt turkey breeding.  If anything we are disrupting nesting but I have only found one nest in 25 years of hunting.

I was sitting at my favorite spot Saturday and I had to stomp down the thigh high weeds so I could see.

We have 300,000 archers chasing bucks all day during the rut and I don't see much interference to the breeding.

The woods are greening up fast this year.  Even in the non temperate zones.  dd
