Any reports on the spring hatch???? Area around our camp in Centre is loaded with turkeys. It was a very hatch for us. Fall outlook is great.

It started out pretty slow in my district. By the end of June I was concerned because my turkey brood counts were way down. Then in July I started seeing a lot of late broods. By the end of July I was ahead of the same time period last year.

I don’t know how August is comparing yet since I haven’t tallied anything for this month yet. I’ll know the first part of September, after I have done the totals of the year and compared it to past years. Right now my impression is that the turkey numbers might be a littler higher then last year though many of the poults were late and thus will be smaller this fall.

Things might be iffy in southern 1B. This week i saw 2 hens with one polt and 3 hens with 7 little ones. Other than that all i've seen is lone hens or small adut hen groups. Some of the hay fields are just getting cut because of all the rain so things might be better than they appear.

Wellll--I must have missed some. While deer scouting along the edge of a field today I foung a dusting area about 15 feet in dia under a red oak. The birds tore the grass up and the place was covered with feathers, droppings, tracks and such and was nothing but dirt. Have to salt that away in the old memory file.

Still not good--this morning while setting a stand I saw 2 single adult hens and 5 adults with 3 poults. The poults were also quite small.
