Good luck and be safe to all who are venturing out in the morning.

Are you really old enough to remember when there were huntable numbers of deer on the gamelands?

Drove up to State College this morning to hunt with my son. Heard one right away but too far away, my son started calling and got one to gobble about three times before we heard some hens and that ended that.

After awhile we saw one behind us crossing the hollow couldn't what it was. Then we see a gobbler coming in silent, came to about 60 yards and turned and went down over.

We talked it over and moved towards another bird that we heard early, my son was now sitting about 25 -30 yards behind me. After awhile I look over my shoulder and there comes three silent long beards from behind us.They came within about 50 yards of me and I couldn't figure why he didn't shoot. With the lay of the land he could hear them walking but couldn't see them.

For the day we saw 4 gobblers, 2 hens and 3 we couldn't identfy. None of the birds gobbled alot only heard about 15 total gobbles all day from 4 -5 gobblers but not sure if any were from the birds we saw.

I never saw that many gobblers without getting a shot before.

Are you really old enough to remember when there were huntable numbers of deer on the gamelands?

The store had a successful first day.

We sold two wooden turkey calls on Friday and both guys harvested birds using them Saturday morning.

One was a 19 pounder.

I heard maybe 3 single gobbles for the morning.  There was one bird that snuck past me about 5o yards away.  I think it had a white head.  Lots of deer tracks where I was.  dd

Passed up two jakes about 2 hours apart that came in silently.  Heard about 5 from the roost but most quit gobbling shortly after flydown.

Well, Turkey season is over for me as of 6:07 this morning.  I must have been sitting under the flock this morning.  I heard one distant gobble and a few minutes later A crow flew by sounding off.  the gobble that followed probably made me jump 2 feet in the air it was so loud.  Must have been less than fifty yards away.  They landed about forty yards away and started coming my may up the other side of the drainage ditch.  There were at least three gobblers so I took the first available clear shot.  A jake with about a four inch beard.  I could not believe it, but after I got to the downed bird, there were at least 5 hens  40 yards away still milling around.  dd

it's great to be home by 6:30.  Of course my wife always has to ask, What are you doing home so early?

Now I can do some trout fishing and the Hazen flea market this weekend.    dd

Good job, I hunted Monday and Tuesday before work and didn't hear a peep.

Buff, when everything comes together just right, it is easy.  It the other 99% of the time that it isn't.  But that's what makes it fun.   dd

Woods were silent again today, but I did bust one off the roost before daylight walking in.

Received an email from my son he shot one this morning before work, 22 lbs beard a little over 9". He didn't send any pictures.
