My largest bird ever. Killed at 9:00 on a farm game coop in Washington County.  22 1/4 lbs, two beards at 9 3/4 and 4 inches and spurs 1 1/4 and 1 1/8.  Shot him at 20 yards as he was in full strut standing on a log.  This the the third mature gobbler I called in this spring but the first that offered a shot.

Good job, it dosen't look good for me this year.

Are you really old enough to remember when there were huntable numbers of deer on the gamelands?

Tell you what, don't give up.  I have been hearing more gobbling as of late then I heard early on in the season.  This last weekend including Memorial day could be the best for those that stick it out.  Now is the prime time to find a lonesome old longbeard.  The weather this weekend is supposed to be good too.

Good luck.

dpms, I will be out both Saturday and Monday, but haven't heard a bird since last friday. I've killed sveeral on the last day, but in all cases I knew where abouts they were from their gobbling earlier in the week. This year it's silence.

Nice bird DPMS, your right about it not being over. Called in 2 jakes for my grandson yesterday but they stayed so close it was kill them both or don't shoot so we left them walk. Went to another area and worked a loudmouth for two hours and at 30 yds he saw us move the gun. Also had one gobble for an hour across from the house this morning. Never give up.
