SUNDAY.. MAY 27th
1:00pm untl 5:00pm
Free Meal After Tour

This will be a tour of habitat work and various projects that profile deer management issues in the state and the local areas.

The tour is free and open to the public . Wear clothing and boots suitable for short walks in the woods and fields. Jackets or rain gear may be needed dependant upon the weather conditions.
High clearance vehicles are preferred, though four-wheel drive is not needed, as you use your vehicle to travel to various locations on the game lands.

The tour starts at 1:00 PM at the Old CCC Camps in Carmen, site of the present day Game Commission Food & Cover Crew Headquarters, located on Game Commission Road.

Take Route 949 South out of Ridgway for approx. 8 miles just prior to the twin bridges that cross over the railroad tracks and Toby Creek turn left onto Game Commission Road.
This is approx. 1 mile north of Portland Mills on Rt. 949.

This is a GREAT opportunity to come out and enjoy the compamy of other sportsmen/women and learn somethings about our Pennsylvania whitetail deer and their habitat and the effect each has on not just each other but other species of wildife in this area of Pennsylvanina..

SEE YA THERE

BTW.. Melody Zullinger of the PFSC has accepted my invitation and plans on attending this year's tour.

TIL LATER..
Doc

The Spring tour is history for this year. We had a fair turn-out of about 35 people.

I am not sure if it was the fact of it being a holiday week-end or the weather forecast of scattered showers and some being severe that may have keep the attendance down for this tour.

Harrisburg and Pittsburgh were the towns with visitors from the greatest distance.

Many folks came prepared with some interesting questions and comments.

I believe that most left with a better understanding of the complex relationship between habitat and wildlife management and many left in agreement that it would better suited to leave the manangement of such to the professionals and not politicans or deer hunters..

Got to meet prnc (Pat) and spend time with him and in fact am meeting him in the morning for some Clarion River fishing...

He took tons of photos so I'll be looking forward to seeing them and hearing his comments on the tour..

More to come this week on the tour and shared information from the tour this Spring...

as I have said many times before ... I learn something new on everyone of these tours...

Here's a shot of people gathering at the fist stop on the tour...

doc, feel free to use the pics in your boards.
for those that don't believe deer are overbrowsing. this is a pic from inside an exclosure. i had to hold the camera over my head to take the pic.
