The Northeast Region of the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Commissioner Jay Delaney, District 7, invites you to join us in a habitat tour of State Game Lands #57, located in Luzerne and Wyoming Counties.
The tour will focus primarily on wildlife habitat management practices being conducted on this state game lands. Completed and current forest management practices employed will be shown and their benefit to wildlife will be discussed. The challenges faced in managing large tracts of forested land, including deer over browsing, poor soil conditions, plant succession, and cultivation difficulties will also be highlighted.
The tour is free and open to the public.
Activities will begin at 10:00 AM at our Land Management Headquarters building at Ricketts Station, Forkston Township, Wyoming County.
The tour will last approximately 4 hours, and a brown-bagged lunch is suggested.
Proper outdoor clothing and footwear is suggested for the short walks planned.
Insect repellent is a must and high clearance vehicles are preferred, although four-wheeled drive is not necessary.
Directions: Take Route 487 north at the intersection of Route 118 and proceed 7.5 miles and turn onto a dirt road near SGL sign on right. Travel on dirt road 1/10 mile to a "Y" intersection and proceed left 3/10 miles to the headquarters complex.
