Even thought we still have the current season remaining that deer can be harvested and the fact the PGC has just begun to calculate the deer harvest for 2007.. It's plain to see "Slimy" has all the answers already ----- http://www.thelineupcard.com/2007/12/slinsky_bring_the_deer_herd_ba.php |

What a craphead!! I hunt 2A and 2B, admittedly good habitat with lots of deer. Also alot of pressure because of its close proximity to major population areas. Maybe more now because many hunters now hunt closer to home because of fewer deer up north. These two units have had close to 110,000 doe tags sold per year since HR was implemented. That would be about 660,000 tags if my math is right. Are our deer wiped out? Is our dpsm 5? The answer is a simple NO!!!!!!!! Why, habitat my friend, habitat. In good habitat, wiping out a deer herd is a pretty tough propisition. Sure there is alot of hard to reach places in 2B, but in 2A, most of the farms get hit pretty hard. Pressure is intense. Even the gamelands and public areas have quite a few deer and they get hit harder than the public areas up north I am sure of that. I got a doe this year on a gamelands in 2A. Pennsylvania has some of the best hunting in the country for deer, elk, bear, turkey etc... Why certain groups are so focused on deer and seeing 30 a day in thier backyard is beyond me. Some have been spoiled too long and that is the only thing I blame the PGC on. |

I don't want to start a fight here but I sure what like some examples..... I have been reading and I get sent a TON of what this guy writes and says and I have found VERY VERY litle that makes sense to me.... especailly when there is facts to show his statements are just not true... he writes HIS opinion only and makes it appear to be fact based BUT rarely (if every) writes or states the facts to support his opinion... He reminds me of that guy on MSNBC and now on Sunday night football games at half-time.. Keith Oberman... just plain negative people on all topics.... |

Total Harvest down.... Let's take a minute and look at some facts... 1.. the total harvest is made up of both bucks and antlerless deer... it is by no means finished for this hunting year.. we are still in the late season until January 12th.... What are the two most important things in harvesting deer.... a...number of available licenses and b...the number of hunters.... so...FACT... over the past 10 years the number of folks actually out there hunting deer is DECREASING... plus the FACT that for the past two years the PGC has (as a whole) decreased the number of available antlerless licenses. FACT = Less hunters and less licenses has to lead to less deer harvested... Also I already mentioned.. FACT.. due to the recent herd reductions there are less deer available.. which leads directly to less deer harvested.. Finally .... FACT = Antler restrictions also reduced the buck harvest by protectng young bucks which is EXACTLY what it was supposed to do... Add to those FACTS... the FACT that the weather was not good for the first three days in most of the state. Especially in those areas that have always showed the higher harvest numbers... And what could anyone expect but a lower deer harvest as a whole for 2007 ?????? |

I would also like to see a survey of how many days and how many hours in those days hunters actually spend in the woods during rifle season. The total number of hunters is down and also, I believe, the time they actually spend in the woods is drastically down as well. Every year it seems, less and less pressure after the first day. |
