Stream:Sandy Lick/Near 5 Mile Creek/ 4/14/2007/Water Temp 37 degrees
There was 3 of us fishing and the bite was slow. We got there after fishing the West Branch of the Clarion near Johnsonburgh.
We started fishing right around 12:00. We fished using various streamers and nymphs and managed to catch 7 trout between the three of us. I only know what I carught my trout on I was using a few of my own nymphs that really are not named but they work. One I call a hanzy special and it can be a killer on early season trout of all species.
All of the fish caught were nice sized so kudos to the Fish Commission for that but it seemed like a lot less trout were stocked a lot less than 20%. But once the water warms up I think that my idea there my change.
On a side note we did keep the trout for our annual first fish fry.
Here is a list of what i found in them that was natural food sources
1: Beatis Numphs
2: Minnows
3: Cased Caddis Nymphs
4: Helgramite
5: Golden Stone
6: March Brown Nymph (wasn't Much left of it so this is my guess)
Good Luck to all also there should be a lot of these so here is a question for you all do you want them all in one thread or one for each time out fishing? There will be other streams added as I fish them.
