GAME COMMISSION OFFICIALS TO APPEAR ON PCN "CALL-IN" PROGRAM HARRISBURG - Pennsylvania Game Commission officials - Carl G. Roe, executive director, and Calvin W. DuBrock, Bureau of Wildlife Management director - will appear on Pennsylvania Cable Network's "PCN Call-In" program on Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m. Viewers of the hour-long program can call in questions about hunting, trapping and wildlife management to PCN toll-free at 1-877-PA65001 (726-5001). (Please check local listings for the PCN channel in your area, or PCN's website at www.pcntv.com.) The call-in program, which is facilitated by PCN staff, will be aired just two weeks after the Board of Game Commissioners' April meeting, at which time it gave final approval to the 2007-08 seasons and bag limits. Available on nearly 150 cable systems throughout the state, PCN is a nonprofit, nonpartisan cable television network that airs unedited live and same-day coverage of Pennsylvania House and Senate sessions, press conferences, speeches and other public forums where the business of the state is debated, discussed and decided. PCN's live interactive "Call-In" program allows viewers to speak directly with government officials, newsmakers, and other knowledgeable parties on current Commonwealth issues. For more information, visit PCN's website (www.pcntv.com). | |||

That's because Dr. Rosenberry isn't equipped to give instant answers to questions involving complex problems. If he had a half hour per each question, bet he could likely explain most of those questions to anyone but the densest among us. Feaser isn't supposed to be on the call-in show, just Carl Roe and Don Vito Dubrock. |

It seems like Chris just isn't prepared for the questions that are always asked. The majority are inquiring about the deer management program. This is the best way the PGC has at it's disposal to present the facts to alot of people. When a caller asks about deer in 2F he should be able to rattle off health of the deer, habitat and deer/human conflicts in that area. And compare to previous years. His answer to that question, which is asked on every call in program that I have seen, is "we know there are alot less deer in 2F". No kidding. Being prepared with facts for specific units seems logical. Most of us are aware of these facts but the majority of our peers are not. It seems a shame that when the PGC is in such a public forum the information that is able to be communicated is sub-par at best. Alot of time and effort should be put into this program and they should be prepared for certain questions. It will be nice to see two different faces. I am interested to see if they do better. |

After watching the show last night I was much more impressed with Roe and Dubrock. They actually seemed prepared for many of the questions. Good statistics to back up the PGC current management plan. Alot of questions about keeping the junior hunter interested. They laid out thier strategy well and offered many ways to get our juniors involved. It is amazing to me to hear hunters saying that the juniors are losing interest because they are not seeing deer. In fact one caller said that he tells his son that 20 years ago they used to see 60 deer a day from the same spot they hunt now. Roe responded by saying he started hunting squirrels and that the caller should take his son squirrel hunting. Exactly. That is how I started as well. More hunters should quit complaining about deer and take the time to hunt other species with thier sons and daughters. Overall, I thought they represented the PGC well. But niether would comment on the Boop thing when asked. |

You hit the nail on the head Get the kids interested in hunting(small game) and let deer season be the bonus. It's actually better as a group activity than deer hunting. dd |

Lots of good calls this time, some postitive, some negative. Roe usually does a good job because he's more used to speaking and fielding questions, than Rosenberry is. Chris is a better biologist than he is a soap salesman, which is fine with me. ![]() My favorite caller was the guy that started out grumbling about no deer, then went off on a tangent about DNCR people driving around in cars??? Doubt he even knew WTH he was trying to say. |
