Josh First has been nominated and his name sent to the senate. Mr. First has served as a moderator and panelist (click here for an "Inside Out" TV intervew <video/paio20051014.wmv>) and has spoken widely on environmental protection, land protection, and conservation abroad, in Pennsylvania, and at Land Trust Alliance rallies and many other conferences and press events around the nation. He has testified numerous times before the Pennsylvania Legislature on conservation issues. He is a member and officer of many conservation groups, including the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs, Trout Unlimited, the Pennsylvania Wildlife Federation, and the National Rifle Association. He served on the national board of directors of Republicans for Environmental Protection (www.repamerica.org <http://www.repamerica.org>) from 2002 through 2006 and authored and co-authored several policy papers for the organization, and is a member of the Policy Council for 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania and the Policy Council for the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association. Mr. First is Coordinator of the Pennsylvania Habitat Alliance, which brings together the state-wide conservation, hunting, fishing, and natural resource non-profit organizations in Pennsylvania, including DCNR, PGC, and PFBC; the group meets twice annually. He is also a past member of the Harrisburg Rotary Club. Mr. First believes strongly in the power of private markets and in their ability to advance environmental quality. He enjoys hunting big game, small game, predators, waterfowl, and upland birds , fishing, hiking, camping, canoeing, and managing his own land for wildlife and native species. (For a five-minute Summer 2006 TV report on Josh taking his oldest children hunting, http://www.appalachianland.us/video/First_family_hunting_2006_lrg.wmv; the download can take up to two minutes depending upon your connection speed) He is married to Vivian, an attorney; they have three children. He owns a certified Tree Farm and Stewardship Forest, and is a Cooperating Landowner with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, with whom he has 350 acres enrolled in Centre County that are open to the public for hunting and trapping. --Last edited by Dr Trout on 2007-04-28 06:37:00 -- |

Considering that The Colonel made crucifying DCNR's John Oliver one of his earliest campaigns years ago and Josh First was closely associated with Oliver at DCNR back then, I expect he'll jump on First with both feet. If Rendell wanted to pick a candidate that'd infuriate USP and the rest of the Grumblins, he couldn't have chosen a better person than Josh First. The usual suspects will be accusing Rendell of packing the BOC with DCNR people by Monday at the latest. |
