this was on another board that i posted on. results were interesting. once the site opens, little pyramids show up. the gold pyramid is recomended for your location. click on a pyramid to check your speed to that server. once complete you are offered three links for sharing results. copy the first link, recomended for most forums. paste results here to share.

my results to chesterbrook,pa.

1200 upload sounds high. maybe 120? when you get the results, click on "copy" once(top link). to add it to your post, right click inside the message box. then left click on paste. it will put the link in your message.

from different sites you can, depending on distance and internet congestion. the one from frederick that you used gives me a slower speed.

It may take some time... BUT..it looks lie Dr. Trout's Outdoorworld Webtv may be changing....

Bodyofsteel stopped in the store the other night and has offered a computer and the "stuff" that I'll need.... PLUS lessons....

So I'll be using both a "puter" and the webtv for awhile....

It should not effect anything for you folks...

JUST MY MIND !!!

What worries me the MOST is "bugs" and "virus"..

I CAN NOT get those with the webtv unit....

and "puter" friends are always telling me the problems and EXPENSE the had when they got one...

???

just make sure you have antivirus, antispyware,a firewall, and ad aware helps. take the time to keep them updated and do the scans often. lots of freeware out there that does it all.

penn, it depends on your type of service. dail-up,dsl 768,dsl 3m,cable, and i think the fastest is fiber opticts.

i just noticed, when it gives you your results, look to the right. there's a box with a globe that says compare your results with others. click on it. it shows your speed compared to the average speed with others in your area that are using the same service.

i'm a little slow, the average(for my service)is at 3300.

Just for the heck of it I'll post this...

That speed really does not mean much to me.... IF.. I understand the basics of how a computer works..

Remember I have a webtv unit in my house..

it connects thru the phone lines to California... that's where I guess you can say my "browser is" so then when it connects at such and such speed it STILL HAS TO GET BACK TO MY TV.... that's where it GETS SLOW on these antique phone lines..

good or bad depends on your type of service, what it is advertised at versus what you get.
