Let me show you why i cant sleep tonight!

i swear to God... I HATE THESE THINGS! an occasional spider i can deal with. cockroach... havent seen one in a few years, but no problem there either. BUT, this creature with all those legs scuttling about like its out to break the land speed record has me dartin my eyes like the smiley on this header. and they wont freakin die! i bolted off the chair awhile ago, grabbed the phone book, which was the nearest thing, slammed it flat on the hairy hindrance, smushed it as much as i could for a good 5 seconds, lifted it, and there he goes! next... grabbed a blanket... again, first thing... AGAIN, smushed, lifted... NOTHING!!! WHERE IS IT!?

so anyway, i had to read up on it, to see what i was up against. and what do i find out? of all the states, they arrived here, in PA, FIRST... in 1849! but my thing is... how did they get HERE first, from MEXICO? hop a plane? when DID the Wright Brothers launch, anyway? ugh.

and not only THAT, but ive been dealing with this annoying rash on the back of my leg for 2 days. and whats the adverse side effect for one who is allergic to the venomous bite of a house centipede? an annoying rash!

he has to die. i have to go to work. problem is... they hatch in spring. hundreds of them... but they are supposed to be beneficial... insectivores. well... he better show me what his bounty was this week or hes gonna be part of my bounty by sun up! if i can ever catch the motherf&@%#$!!!

have you tried a 12 gauge pump loaded with #8 shot??

I am not so sure Glenn's idea is a good one, I do not think a 12 gauge is a legal weapon for harvesting centipedes, you'd have to check the regulations.

Plus you would not want to get in trouble with the US government.. so you will have to find out if the centipede entered the USA from Mexico legally or illegally or was actually born here in the USA.. Illegal immigation is a touchy subject right now..

Seriously...

The first thing I would try to do is put one cigarette in 1 quart of warm water and allow it to stand overnight. The nicotine that is released is a deadly poison. Place the mixture in a spray bottle to kill most crawling bugs. Just spray around your baseboards in various locations. This makes a very good insect spray for many creatures.

Another mixture
that works well on many insects indoors is a drop or two of one OR MORE of the following oils in a quart of water and use that as a spray..

citronella oil
lavendar oil
cinnamon oil
peppermint oil
citrus oil

WoW Dr Trout Thanx for the remedies...Will try them. I have bnot seen any cenepede's up on the main floor or the upstairs floor of the house...BUT I have an OLD basement... & they live down there. I have tried & killed a few BUT there is one down there that is the size of a ??? I dunno... maybe 3-4 inches. JUST HUGE...! I have seen him twice & when I go for something to kill him the sucker is gone!

PS...I think I will try to catch him & send him to Jim... J/K Jim!

FINALLY i can get in and check out the responses! LOL... apparently it was slow across all boards today.

and Doc, those are great tips! too bad Renée and i BOTH quit smoking 2 months ago. 2 months today for me, as a matter of fact! YAY!!! 2 months and 3 days for my wife.

im still gonna try that. i cleaned house today, except for the basement... im avoiding that one. lol.

I heard from a friend that knows a guy that is really good buddies with a police officer.  He said the state police stopped a truck driver on the interstate and on closer inspection, the truck was full of house centipedes.  Turns out, the game commission is trading turkeys for centipedes.

Those dark purple to almost black worm like things with a ZILLION legs that curl up when you touch them are the ones I CAN'T stand.. well those and SNAKES !!!  :

OKOKOK....ENOUGH of the thousand-leg-ged-things pictures...I now have the eebbee-geeebees...snakes I can handle...these things gross me out!!

I must admit I did at one time thing about using it for fishing bait but the idea of having to hold that thing to put it on a hook just sort of creeped me out !!
