Wish I knew more about mushroom hunting.  I saw some pictures of morells recently and was surprised to see that they were hollow.  dd

I'm with you on that Rich...

I know nothing about mushrooms other than I enjoy eating the store-bought kind..

I have a friend who almost died from eating the wrong kind that were "picked" and that killed any ideas of me "pickin mushrooms" for good..

But of course nightstalker can tell you all about the incident that I  just metioned.....

Morels are one of the easiest to identify.  Once you see one in person. No mistakes.  Hollow inside including the cap.  There is a false morel but the cap is solid and the mushroom doesn't look a true morel in my opinion.

The morel is probably the most sought after shroom.  Short season usaually lasts a few weeks.  Now is the time.

If you stumble on a patch and are afraid to sample send me the coordinates.

I haven't found any morels in Pa yet, but I have found them in West Virginia when I used to spring gobbler hunt down there. Nothing like turkey fingers and morels...

In Pa I have picked chicken of the woods (sulfers- ok, but don't care for them), hen of the woods (sheepshead, can be big and are good), califlower- good, and shaggy manes (inkies- good).

nightstalker is going to show me stumpies this year.
