i took this photo last september. didn't think anything of it. now i think that it's the emerald ash borer that everyone is talking about.

I don't think it's an emerald ash borer. Emerald ash borers seem to be more shaped a grasshopper or cicadas. Your pic looks more like a wasp or some sort of big biter. Pretty flashy though...
