The whole idea of baiting being illegal is silly to me...

We  hunt areas where deer are eating 1,000s of acorns that are laying on the ground and NO one seems to think that is "UNFAIR"..

Many archers hunt apple trees that deer are feeding under... and that's okay... in fact.. I know guys who hunt from "up in" the apple tree...OKAY there too

Many "hunt"  and more and more are "using" food plots to harvest deer after attracting them to that area and that seems to be becoming "main stream"

But the poor guy who who puts corn out to feed deer all year has to remove it or he's break some silly law... and using "bait".. especially corn on the ground is considered by many as being unfair....

How about a deer decoy ???

No one can tell me they put one of those out for any reason OTHER THAN to attract deer... and doing that sounds exactly like the definition used for baiting...

to attract deer to a particular un-natural area

can not see much difference in any of the above,,

in my opinion

It is a fine line between the two.  Standing corn left for the deer or a pile in a field.  A bottle of doe in heat or acorn syrup poured on a stump. There is not much difference.

Maybe the perception from the non-hunting public is what drives the current game laws in regards to this.  I wonder how it is going over in the SE of the state where it is legal in the SRA's??

Penn,

Those are not pet deer, they are wild. The pictures are from an area near the Clarion River.

My Dad feeds deer and turkeys at his place and I can get pretty close to them there. I'll see if I can get a few pics.

I also feed at my place in the winter, but one movement past my window all of them high tail it. Both places get alot of hunting pressure. Go figure.

I thought I had better edit my post. The pictures that Doc posted are not from my Dad's place.
