How many times have we all heard this complaint from folks dissappointed in the current number of deer in Pa.
I have always got a "kick" out of the guys saying "they drove so far and did not see any deer along the road". I have always known it's part luck and part timing.
Here's a perfect example ---
I took a drive (6 miles) thru Clear Creek State Forest this evening from 7:00pm until 7:45 pm... I saw NO DEER.. proof that the PGC and hunters have killed all the deer in Clear Creek State Forest... RIGHT ????
WAIT A MINUTE ----
Let me clarify that... I saw NO DEER on the return trip along the same road I went out on.. only 20 minutes later...... on the way "out" I saw 9 including one fawn running after its mother.
After I got back within the 4 mile circle of my home the total climbed to 16 deer spotted and as I pulled into the parking lot at the house it climbed to 20, 4 were grazing in the pasture and ran into the woods as I pulled in.
Here's a photo of one of the Clear Creek deer...
Here's one of the local herd .. I know it's blurry but I wanted to photo the deer on the left even though it was far far away..... it's a buck.. and it's posted grounds...
