I heard one young jake around 9:00 this morning, then I hiked the rest of the day. Very little talking from the birds, saw no deer, saw 2 grouse. I did come across an Appalachin Trail Marker enbedded in the trail I was on; that was neat to see. And I have one question; Why must I have to wear the flo orange on my head but yet hikers, bird watchers do not!!! Whats wrong with this law???????

don't make me wear orange!! i'll avoid an area that i think may have hunters. just because i don't want to mess up their hunt. one reason i don't like sunday hunting. today i would have liked to go to erie bluffs. it's still open for hunting. i'll wait until tommorow. i guess game laws can only be made to effect hunters and poachers. i wonder if they apply to birders and hikers on game lands.

prnc... If you're talking about the gobbler photo I found it by a google search.... I do not think flo orange applies to anyone BUT hunters... I have never seen a rule or law that requires anyone to wear orange except people WHILE HUNTING

I know that doc, but don,t you think it makes sense just in case a hiker just happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Some state gameland entrances have signs requesting hikers to wear orange during the hunting seasons and some don't. Just requesting a simple orange hat would work. Oh well thanks for listening

We had 1 gobbler and 2 hens come to within 60 yards of out decoys and then hang up. We watched the gobbler stut, display and gobble at the decoys for 15 mins. They lost interest and moved off. That was it for the day. Monday morning won't come soon enough! Hunt safe! Long beard |

I made it out Saturday morning till about ten. There were two or three gobbling from about 5:30 till seven but they would not come my way after leaving the roost. I might have heard some hens clucking which might have been the problem. Did manage to watch a few fox squirrels for a while. I hunted behind a factory that I used to work at. It roughly five miles from the center of Erie. It's amazing how turkeys are so close to civilization now. Aesthetically hunting between factory scrap and housing developments is not quite the same as hunting in the big woods. The traffic noise does not help much either. dd |

My hunting buddy Jeff and I had a good day yesterday. We heard a gobbler early and then another a little further away, so we headed toward them. I kept telling Jeff that the first gobbler sounded closer to us than the second one. So we would go a few hundred yards and wait for him to gobble on the roost so we wouldn't spook them. Well a long story short, the first gobbler didn't gobble again and we ended up busting three gobblers together out of the trees and the other gobbler that we heard further away shut up... We called and waited around but no luck. We moved to another area and had two jakes come in, not what we were looking for, we let them go to grow up for next year. Two other places we had gobblers answer our calls, but there was a vehicle parked near by at both places and we didn't want to screw up another hunter's morning so we moved on. All and all a good morning. Can't wait until Monday morning. I might be on gamelands 54 tomorrow. ![]() Gobblers- 6 Jakes- 2 Buff- 0 |

We had 2 hens and a gobbler. Hens came in to about 15 yards, gobbler stayed about 50. My daughter was thrilled to see him strut his stuff. No kill just great to be in the woods.

Hunted the last 2 days,no shots but have seen and called with 5 gobblers. 2 yesterday I messed with for almost 3 hours they never came closer than 100 yards. 3 this morning that shut up as soon as they hit the ground. All birds were with hens, both mornings hens were roosted with the gobblers. Possible the hens are not breed yet? Kinda late for that I think? tomarrow is another day, I'll think I'll get in a little earlier and try to set up closer to them. JD |

I was on SGL 54 this morning and heard atleast 4 different birds gobbling. I'd say two of them were jakes (goofy gobbles). The gobbler I was working kept going back and forth, and back and forth until the hens got to him and he shut up. I had to go to work, so I quietly got out of there. I'll be back there tomorrow morning before work and see if I can ruin his day. |

I was out for a few hours this morning. I had the same gobbler gobbling on the roost that I heard on Sat. He was probably 100 yards past where he was on Sat. Trying to close the distance I ran right into a kid set up on the trail. Word of caution, DO NOT wave a camouflaged arm to get some body's attention. Wave some orange or speak. I went the other direction and the gobbler kept gobbling but shut up 1/2 hour later when he left the roost. dd |

I hunted the bearpen area of #54 on Saturday without any luck. Did not hear or see anything but lots of deer signs. I did have 3 gobblers cross in front of me on the way up to #44 sat afternoon. dd |

I haven't been out but my mentored youth hunter and his dad got a nice bird here on opening day. And I've been seeing two gobblers and five jakes off and on, since then. Ten year old Kyle Schutt of Boyertown. ![]() Survivor: ![]() |
