Was talking to a buddy of mine that hunts northwest Colorado for elk and mule deer every year.  I guess they are having a horrible winter this year and are talking of a major winterkill this year.

Got to thinking.  Back in the 80's I remember talk of winterkill in Pa. and PGC personel walking the streambottoms in march doing winterkill surveys.

I have not heard much lately on the subject.  Are the surveys still done or has winterkill faded away in Pa.?  If it has faded away is it due to milder winters or a herd more in balance with it's habitat?

I know from reading HPA that RSB still does the winterkill survey.  I think Kevinup went along the one year.  dd
